keep on the sunnyside

Then there were two!
This idea was totally stolen from Posy,
I'm not a fan of plagerism, but to be fair Posy herself got the idea from
Caroline Zoob.
I am like Jim Carey in liar liar.
I cannot lie!
I do believe in showing your working out,
which is why I always link back if possible.
I'm so sick of reading new blogs who have a million devotees and not an ounce of originality.
Ooh getting off my soap box!
Let me distract with some pretty vintage hexagons.

I've finally got round to sewing a back onto this gorgeous vintage piece
thats been floating around the house.
I love this mash up of colours (obvious)
the fabrics are just lovely.
 Do you buy patchwork?
I made these with the mind to sell them.
238 squares each!!
Insane!
They remain patchwork pieces, should I make them into curtains?
hope you can all keep on the sunnyside this weekend...
I think spring is just round the corner.

They are lovely! So beautiful with the light behind them!

Btw... with the backing on the hexies, how do you get the corners so perfect? Everytime i have backed something, when I turn it right side out it looks a little dodgy. The backing peeks over the edge of the "troughs" between the hexies. Its not so bad on the outside edges though... Maybe I'm not sewing close enough to the seam?

Always on the sunnyside....
Love your patchwork! It is fabulous! The vintage hexagons are wonderful :) How did you finish it? I love that the edge has the hexagon shape rather than appliqueing it to a border fabric. It is lovely...your blog is lovely!

Hi Claire, I LOVE your patchwork squares and the shot with the sunlight through them is gorgeous...love posy's kitchen curtains too :0)
I'm sure I've seen them used for curtains in a vintage caravan too...gorgeous but I can't remember the link !!
I'm totally loving your hexagons .I have some I pieced as a teenager and I think you have solved my problem of what to turn them into....as soon as I finish my crochet hexagons !!
Have a great weekend

I am trying to keep on the sunnyside Clare but despite the sunshine I feel quite dark! You are so patient to have sewn all those patchwork squares together. They would look good as curtains or as a giant bean bag cover!!! Have a lovely weekend. x

I may have a go at some of those mats - thats the size of project I have patience for these days. Looks like we may snow around these parts this weekend. xxx

Oooh these should def. be curtains, and so perfect right now, as the flowers are starting to push up in the garden, and the sun is out ( though still fweeeeezing! )....if I had these in my house, they would cheer me every morning......and if in the kitchen, might pass the time whilst washing up???!

Love all your work Clare. I agree with you about linking to the people from whom you get your inspiration- I am not the worlds most creative and do like to use other peoples ideas but never pass them off as my own.

Oh my gosh! Your projects are awesome! I think the patchwork pieces would be great as quilts, but they would make some pretty cheerful curtains, too!

Darling, people have been making patchwork curtains (and blankets and tablecloths and skirts and every other thing known to man and woman) for thousands of years. It's kind of a "public domain" thing. Love your honesty! And it's not the bloggers with nothing original but the pattern and fabric companies that take an old, classic pattern and give it a new name and sell it for $8 or $15 dollars. That's what gets me. But, whatever floats yer boat, right? xxoo

Wow they would make gorgeous colourful curtains! :)
Happy weekend Clare,

I like those curtains very much, yes I would buy them , however if it costs more than, or half as the curtains to ship to the USA I have to draw the line there. They are gorgeous, and dont worry because I have seen those patchwork quilt curtains in Country Living 20 yrs ago in a country house in England , I have seen many since then in many magazines and houses , no worries.

I love the hexagons and the 'curtains' I recieved a quilting book for Christmas but have so far only managed to make things in my head. I keep coming here for inspiration.

I remember those curtains that Posy made - yours look just as beautiful. Wish I didn't get such a bad back cutting out squares... Have a fab weekend! x

Hi Clare,

Those squares look pretty amazing hanging on the window, so curtains would be great. Awesome, even.

But theyd also be great on the bed...

Square quilts are amongst my all time favourites. Simple, but great. Your colour choices, as always, make these sing.

By the way, is that a new header? It looks beautiful. That star quilt on the left is very eye-catching.

cheers

Well Clare lots of loveliness as usual and originality on your blog! Not everyone is so gifted, though they should give credit where credit is due...!

Your hexies are delightful and what a great way to be able to show your vintage fabrics

Those curtains are lovely, I have a large one that covers a door opening in my kitchen which everyone seems to like even though it is about 20 years old now and a bit tatty....but still bright. Now thinking maybe the windows.....!

Yes - I do buy patchwork cos I haven't a hope of making it myself! Spring is deffo on the way - the days are getting longer, no?

I did spot something similar at Red Pepper Quilts recently as well. Keep as curtains is my vote. They are gorgeous and very "real" if you get what I mean... :D

Hi Clare! I like your style (and Posy's, too). Your patchwork curtains look so lovely with the sun coming through.

Gorgeous patchwork, and perfect as curtains. I love your hexies too. I would buy patchwork but I never seem to stumble across it. I have a quilt that my grandmother made that I love, and I've made quilts for my girls out of big squares machined together, but I do fancy a bit of tiny hexy work! XX

My pleasure Clare. Yeah, what am I gonna make next... I have tons of half done stuff lying all over the place, a custom order of 35 scout scarves to make for a friend... Why did I say yes??? It is completely blocking my creative mind. I think I am gonna make a pair of the scrappy slippers I tried out for a while ago. And some tin jackets. And I would love to finish some of my WiPs, clear out my work space a bit... So little time though. It feels like I have fallen off the wagon a bit. I am running like a mad person trying to get back on. Thanks for popping by.

LOVE your patchwork "curtains"! Best mix of fabric.
And the vintage hexagon table-topper is super cute.
Let's hope spring is around the corner!

I have been drooling over the Caroline Zoob/Posy patchwork curtains for years too! But YOU have actually produced them (or, at least, I certainly think you should!) I like your colour for today's post too - we have damp gloom down here in the South of France - colour also appreciated here!
